Develop public awareness about
nursing. We continue to publish the column
“Conversations”, which shares the experiences of nurses practicing in Vermont to raise public
awareness regarding the work of nurses across the state. If you know
nurses with stories that just must be told, let us know (E-mail) and we will be pleased to
spread the word through publication in the Vermont

Provide
scholarships for nursing education. Three members of the Foundation Board
serve as a scholarship committee. They review applications for the
Arthur L. Davis Scholarship and select its recipient. The recipient will
be a Vermont State Nurses’ Association member who is attending a nursing
program and active in a nursing organization. The Foundation also
provides support for continuing education for nurses. |

The VSNF has published "Voices of
Vermont Nurses; A History of Nursing in Vermont from 1941-1996".
The VSNF is also the distributor of the book and most recently requested that
all Vermont’s 200 libraries purchase the book. Every nurse should have
a copy of this book because it is a history that many nurses share and sales
of the book support the VSNF's mission. |

This is one area that the Foundation has
yet to develop. At this time, the available resources of the Foundation
are being directed toward education efforts. Fundraising to support
nursing research activities will begin in the near future. |

Raise
money for these projects. Your everyday mail tells you that there
is an endless list of demands on your charitable contributions and the VSNF
is out there as well. As a non-profit organization, donations to this
Foundation are tax deductible. Currently the focus of fund raising
efforts is upon supporting nursing education. We are beginning a
campaign to address the nursing shortage and assure an adequate, and well educated,
nursing workforce for the state of Vermont now and into the future.
Quality health care can only come about when there is an adequate supply of
nurses with education appropriate to the roles they are fulfilling.
Providing quality health care is a serious obligation to society and the VSNF
is out there working with you, doing our part to make a difference. |
